It was with some frustration around June 2001 that I invited Viv to come and assist me with developing my practice. I had reached the stage as a sole practitioner in a country area where things just weren’t going the way I had “hoped” and I thought I wasn’t being rewarded appropriately for my efforts. After listening to her presentation at a New Zealand institute function, I felt that she may be able to assist.

After an initial two day visit which followed my completion of an extensive questionnaire, we launched into our development programme. Five years later (there were a few significant events that occurred in my practice during this period) I felt confident enough to reduce Viv’s involvement to an “as required” basis which tends to now involve a couple of visits a year.

The benefits from our association have been a huge increase in the efficiency and profitability of my practice, but it is the continuing exposure to the leading edge technology and processes that provide a longer term and ongoing advantage.

Being able to use her as a sounding board and being the recipient of really practical advice during some fairly major restructuring of my practice was priceless.

I am, as the book says, “an advocate” and a very enthusiastic one at that. I would be surprised if there were many 1-3 partner practices that would not benefit from her input.
